Dean's GREEN Initiative

At Dean's, we know how important it is to be conscious of the Earth that we live on. Unfortunately what we sell isn't exactly known for its "nature friendliness", so we've decided to change that and start the "Dean's GREEN Initiative"!

What is the "GREEN Initiative"? It's where we at Dean's do our part to help in recycling and reusing supplies, while lowering our emissions and cutting our carbon footprint.

So what have we done already? Here's a quick overview of steps the "GREEN Initiative" has already taken!

-Recycle used boxes: When new machines are shipped to Dean's, they are sent in boxes of varying sizes. In the past, these boxes were simply discarded after their usefulness was through. Now these boxes get new life. We reuse many of the boxes that we receive. Those that cannot be used (due to size or damage) are run through a machine that makes them into packing material that can be used to protect exported equipment.

-Recycle Toner: When toner has reached its capacity, usually it has been simply discarded. At Dean's, we reuse the cartridges that the toner comes in, and if there is any toner leftover, we use it as well!

-Lower Emissions, Less Gas: We have a service and technological team that is constantly on the go, and with that comes copious amounts of traveling. To alleviate the potential problems that this amount of travel could cause, we have filled our fleet with high gas mileage, low emission vehicles such as the Chevy Aveo. This lowers our Carbon Footprint, and prevents over-consumption of precious fossil fuels.

-Recycled Equipment: At Dean's we sell many machines that have been recycled! For instance, certain Canon machines that we sell are made from 95% recycled material. Our service team also refurbishes old machines to cut costs on the need for new parts, while preventing overconsumption of natural resources.

The Greensboro Chamber of Commerced announced on April 5th that the 25th Anniversary Piedmont Triad Business Showcase will be held on May 17th, 2012 from 8:00am to 6:00pm. This will be the largest business-to-business tradeshow in the region! This large tradeshow will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. In addition, you can check out the seminars and special networking events to round off your day. This is definitely one event you DO NOT want to miss. With so much to gain and learn, it is imperative that you mark Thursday, May 17th down on your calendars!

Dean's was recently presented with the prestigious Toshiba ProMasters Award.

ProMasters is only given to an office equipment dealer that meets and exceeds the highest standards in service response time, first call effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. Dean's ranks in the top 5th percentile of Toshiba dealerships in the United States in these areas and is the first company in the Carolina's to receive the award. Owner, Steve Cobb, and service manager, Brian Jobe, visited Las Vegas to receive the honors.

Dean's Office Machines is proud to be a presenter at the 55th Annual Carolina's Association of Government Purchasers Conference being held in Winston-Salem on March 1st 2011.

This show includes an impressive array of workshops that include sessions on Formal, Informal bid, and Construction contract requirements also with Legislative updates from Eileen Youens, tips on NC Economic Forecast, what's next with Karl Smith, Purchasing and the budget, public records and Contract Management by Frayda Bluestein, and many other issues that public procurement professionals face each day. Dean's Office Machines has been invited by Elon University to demonstrate their "Green Initiatives" in the office equipment and printing industry. Dean's has been a leader in introducing new energy star compliant equipment and eco-friendly product lines. From implementing new toner recycling procedures to selling equipment made from 100% recycled material, Dean's is doing their part to protect the environment.

According to Danny Cobb, Area Manager for Alamance County with Dean's, "We are getting extremely positive feedback from our customers with our new toner recyling program. At no cost to the end user we have been able to collect and return many used toner cartridges. Instead of ending up in a landfill these cartridges are being remanufactured and in some cases recycled into "eLumber" that is used in park benches, fences, furniture, planters, and much more."
